October payrolls beat by 100,000 and lift December hike odds; VIX jumps 70% to 28 as the Nasdaq 100 has its worst day since 2020 and Asia follows; and the stolen Binance XRP starts moving, with about 42 million swapped to bitcoin. All eight gauges hold.

Where things stand

Evidence through Nov 6, 10:35 AM ET

XRP spot: $1.18, CoinDesk, 9:30 am ET Friday Nov 6; down about 10.6% from Thursday's $1.32 stamp, an 11-week low. Evidence verified through Nov 6, 10:35 am ET.

No gauge moved; all eight hold, and one arrow comes off. January Brent settled $98.29 Thursday, up $3.67 (Reuters), so the Macro Backdrop count reaches 2 of 5 while Oil Shock's improving arrow is removed. VIX closed 28.18, up 69.66%, as the Nasdaq 100 had its worst day since 2020. October payrolls rose 165,000 (BLS). Tap any gauge for its basis, criteria and math.

  • Macro Backdrop: improving arrow holds. Sub-$100 settles: 2 of 5; the earliest fifth is Nov 10.
  • XRP Flows: worsening arrow holds. Thursday printed $0; Friday needs more than $529.51K of inflow to avoid a net outflow week.
  • Yen Carry: worsening arrow holds. USD/JPY about 158.5 (Trading Economics), 1.47 yen under 160.
  • Oil Shock: improving arrow removed. Brent's settle is $8.29 above the $90.00 marker, moving away from it.

Next:

  • Nov 7: XRP ETF week close, the week-ending summary, the tracked-inputs review and the October retrospective
  • Nov 10: October CPI and the earliest fifth sub-$100 Brent settle

A Dec 9 hike is the Global Liquidity worsen test, and pricing now leans toward it.

The biggest VIX jump since April 2025; Risk Appetite holds at MIXED on judgment.

The first outflow from the six wallets, routed through THORChain rather than an exchange.

1Payrolls beat by 100,000 and lift December hike odds

High✓ Verified

The Bureau of Labor Statistics said nonfarm payrolls rose 165,000 in October, against a Dow Jones estimate of 59,000 and a Reuters poll of 65,000, and unemployment fell to 4.1% from 4.2% (BLS; CNBC). August and September were revised up 84,000 combined, September to 60,000 from 29,000, and the labor force grew 421,000 (CNBC; Reuters via Investing.com).

Rate pricing moved the same morning: futures put about a 75% chance on a December hike, up from 72% before the data (Rallies), and the 2-year rose about 5 bp to 4.52% with the 10-year near 4.87% (CNBC). A second source has the odds near 78% (National Mortgage Professional); the desk carries the range, not a single figure.

Why it matters: the Global Liquidity worsen test is a second Fed rate increase in 2026, and Dec 9 is the decision that would fire it. The gauge does not move on pricing; it holds at NEUTRAL until the Fed acts. Counter-evidence: yields pulled back after the first jump and the 30-year added only about 2 bp, so the long end did not treat the report as an inflation shock (Reuters via Investing.com). The household survey behind the unemployment drop is noisier than the payroll count.

2VIX jumps 70% to 28 as Nasdaq 100 posts worst day since 2020

High✓ Verified

VIX closed 28.18 Thursday, up 11.57 points or 69.66% from 16.61, after an intraday high of 28.36 (Ad Hoc News, citing Reuters). That is its biggest one-day jump since the April 2025 tariff shock and its highest level since late March (Ad Hoc News; StockTitan, citing CNBC). It was still near 26.55 at 9:13 am ET Friday (Yahoo Finance), so the fear did not unwind overnight.

The trigger was equities: the Nasdaq 100 fell 6.36% to 26,629.81, its worst day since March 2020, the S&P 500 lost 4.36% and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index about 12.3% (CNN; investingLive). Coverage ties the selling to fears of tighter AI and data-center rules after Democratic wins; that is the reported read, not a verified cause. Asia followed Friday: the KOSPI fell more than 8% with a trading halt and the Nikkei about 6% (Reuters via Fox Business).

The shock stayed in equities: MOVE, the Treasury volatility index, rose only 4.3% to 97.92 (Yahoo Finance) while Treasury yields fell, so bond markets did not price the same stress.

Why it matters: Global Risk Appetite has no pre-registered criteria, and the desk holds it at MIXED rather than move it on one session. The hold is a judgment, stated as one: Nasdaq futures rose about 1.7% after the jobs data (Reuters via SRN News). If VIX holds above 25 into next week, the case for RISK-OFF strengthens, and the test should be written first.

3Stolen Binance XRP starts moving, about 42M swapped to bitcoin

HighPartially verified

The six wallets sat still for three days, then two of them moved. Elliptic says that from the afternoon of Nov 5, two of the six addresses holding the 233.46M XRP taken in the Oct 29 Binance theft began sending XRP to dozens of new accounts that swapped it, mostly through THORChain, into bitcoin (Elliptic via Bitcoin Magazine). Its count through Friday: about 42M XRP, roughly $50M, swapped, and about 192M XRP, roughly $226M, still unswapped.

What is and is not verified: the movement is on a public ledger, but the desk has not run its own ledger read and the counts are one firm's tally, so the item stays PARTIALLY VERIFIED. No transfer to a centralized exchange has been reported. THORChain is a cross-chain swap protocol, so the XRP leaves through its liquidity pools rather than an exchange order book.

Why it matters: this is the supply overhang the watch list has tracked since Nov 2. Counter-evidence on price: about $50M of swaps sits against roughly $2.28B of 24-hour XRP volume (Bybit), and XRP's 8.3% fall over the same window matched ether's 8.3% (Altcoin Buzz), so the selloff is not attributable to the hacker on this evidence.

4Brent rebounds to $98.29 as tanker attacks resume

High✓ Verified

January Brent settled $98.29 Thursday, up $3.67 (3.88%), and WTI $90.52, reversing part of Wednesday's 8.7% fall (Reuters via Yahoo Finance). Reuters ties the rebound to new tanker attacks and to doubts about pricing a fast return of Gulf flows. Brent traded near $98.60 Friday and is still set for its biggest weekly fall since 2020 (Business Recorder).

What it does to the gauges: the settle is still under $100.00, so the Macro Backdrop count reaches 2 of 5; settles below $100.00 on Nov 6, 9 and 10 would complete it. Oil Shock stays at SHOCK, and its improving arrow comes off: the settle is $8.29 above the $90.00 marker, moving away from it.

Eurasia Group cut the chance of a deal to 10% from 20% and of renewed US strikes to 60% from 65%, and raised a continued standoff to 30% from 15% (Reuters via Yahoo Finance). Brent priced in yen is about ¥15,580 (desk calc: $98.29 times 158.53, Trading Economics), up from about ¥14,990.

5Trump says an Iran strike decision is coming very soon

HighPartially verified

President Trump said Thursday that people will know soon whether he orders strikes to "destroy what is left of" Iran (CBS News). On Friday he called Qatar's emir, whose office said they discussed diplomatic efforts to de-escalate (CBS News; The New Arab). A senior Iranian official told Reuters that Iran has submitted a nuclear proposal through Qatar, conditional on the US meeting Tehran's seven demands (Reuters via The New Arab), and Bloomberg reported, citing a diplomat, that Tehran is willing to discuss nuclear issues it had kept off the table (Bloomberg).

What is not verified: Fox News reported that officials discussed Nov 9 as a possible day for strikes (Fox News via The New Arab), and the IRGC claims it shot down a US MQ-1 drone over Qeshm Island, per Fars; both are logged UNVERIFIED. The content of Iran's proposal has not been published.

Why it matters: the strike path and the deal path are both live at once, and the oil market priced the deal on Wednesday and the risk on Thursday. Iran's army spokesman warned that an attack would bring strikes on US assets without regard to any geographical restrictions (Al Jazeera).

6A seafarer is killed as tanker attacks reach inside the Gulf

Medium✓ Verified

A seafarer was killed on the Marshall Islands-flagged tanker Velos Sapphire, hit by an explosion its Greek manager believes was a missile while sailing empty toward Bahrain (Reuters via Business Recorder; CBS News). The IMO lists it as the tanker attacked about 50 nm north of Madinat ash Shamal, Qatar, the vessel in UKMTO's Nov 4 report, and counts 129 incidents and 25 seafarer deaths in the region so far (Riviera).

UKMTO counts at least five vessels reporting incidents since Sunday, near October's record of 35 hit (Reuters via US News). On Friday a master reported an explosion at the waterline 16 nm east of Oman (Riviera).

Unconfirmed: the IRGC says two tankers caught fire after mine strikes, with no vessel named (Al Jazeera).

Why it matters: Hormuz stays at DISRUPTION and the improve count stays at zero of five. Attacks now reach inside the Gulf, not only the strait (Lloyd's List). The Reuters transit series was again not located.

7XRP falls to an 11-week low as ETFs print zero again

Medium✓ Verified

XRP traded at $1.18 at 9:30 am ET Friday, down 7.8% over 24 hours (CoinDesk), its lowest level since late August. Thursday closed near $1.2056 after a high near $1.33 (The Crypto Basic). The drop came with the equity rout: ether fell about 8.3% and bitcoin 6.1% over the same window (Altcoin Buzz).

US XRP ETFs printed $0 Thursday on SoSoValue, a third straight zero day, with cumulative inflow at $1.81B and net assets at $1.41B (The Block; CoinGabbar). CoinGlass also reads $0 (CoinGlass), so the print carries two trackers. The week of Nov 2 stands at -$529.51K after four of five prints (desk calc); CoinGlass still has no Nov 2 row.

Why it matters: XRP Flows sits at WEAKENING with a worsening arrow. Friday needs more than $529.51K of net inflow to avoid a net outflow week; a confirmed outflow week fires NEGATIVE when the print is read Nov 7. The freeze cuts both ways: no redemptions on the worst equity day in 19 months, but no buyers either.

8Japan's wages post the fastest rise since 1997 as JGBs rally

Medium✓ Verified

Nominal wages rose 4.6% in September from a year earlier, the largest gain since 1997, the labor ministry reported Friday (The Japan Times); economists had expected a slowdown. The data reinforces expectations of a December BOJ hike from the 1.25% policy rate.

JGBs went the other way on the day: the 10-year fell to 2.627%, its sharpest one-day drop since July, as the Wall Street selloff drove a rush into government debt (Investing.com). The yen traded near 157.8 in Asia (InstaForex), then USD/JPY rose to about 158.5 later Friday (Trading Economics).

Yen Carry tracked inputs, not triggers: the US-Japan 10-year spread is about 2.21 points (desk calc: 4.84% Treasury par Nov 5, U.S. Treasury, minus 2.627%), up about 6 bp, so the gap widened rather than narrowed. A carry unwind needs the gap to narrow and the yen to rally together; neither happened this run.

9White House moves the Lisa Cook hearing to Dec 14

Medium✓ Verified

A White House committee of inquiry postponed its hearing with Fed Governor Lisa Cook from Nov 5 to Dec 14, at her request, a White House official said (CNBC). Her lawyer had said questions about the panel's fairness must be addressed first and that Cook would be at policy meetings in Europe. It is unclear whether she will attend on Dec 14.

Why it matters: the hearing now lands five days after the Dec 9 FOMC, so Cook votes on the decision that would fire the Global Liquidity worsen test before the inquiry reports. The panel decides whether there is cause to remove her; a June Supreme Court ruling kept her in office while her suit proceeds (CNBC). This is a governance question for the Fed, not a rate decision, and it does not move any gauge.

10SEC crypto broker rule reaches the White House as Warren lines up

MediumPartially verified

The SEC's proposed crypto broker-dealer rule is under White House review. OIRA lists RIN 3235-AN48, amendments to broker-dealer financial responsibility, recordkeeping and reporting rules for crypto assets, as received Nov 3, economically significant, proposed-rule stage, no legal deadline (Reginfo.gov). The text is not public; the SEC agenda ties it to the net capital and customer protection rules (CoinGape).

Separately, Sen. Elizabeth Warren is expected to chair the Senate Banking Committee from January, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar, with crypto firms and prediction markets among her early targets (Benzinga). Her selection is still pending (PYMNTS).

Why it matters: neither event qualifies under the Macro Backdrop regulatory leg, which needs a Federal Register rule on market structure or listing standards; a broker capital proposal under review is neither. The two point opposite ways: the agencies keep writing crypto rules while the Senate committee that oversees them moves to a chair who has opposed industry-friendly bills.

11GateHub launches a MiCA euro stablecoin on the XRP Ledger

Medium✓ Verified

GateHub and Slovenian e-money institution Dinaro launched GateHub Euro (EURGH) on Nov 5, a MiCA electronic money token pegged 1:1 to the euro and issued by Dinaro, on the XRP Ledger and Xahau, with SEPA mint and redeem (Stablecoin Insider; U.Today). Dinaro is regulated by the Bank of Slovenia (U.Today).

What it is not: it is not the first MiCA euro token on the ledger; Schuman Financial's EURØP launched there in May 2025 (Bitcoin.com News). A launch is not adoption, and no supply or volume figure was located.

Why it matters: regulated euro rails on the XRP Ledger widen what can settle there, but stablecoin issuance does not create XRP demand by itself; any link runs through bridging and fees, which this launch does not measure. It moves no gauge.

Watch next

Thresholds and dates

Watching:

  • XRP ETFs: Friday's print, read Nov 7, decides the week of Nov 2; more than $529.51K of inflow avoids an outflow week.
  • Brent: settles under $100 on Nov 6, 9 and 10 move Macro Backdrop to UNFAVORABLE.
  • Iran: Trump's strike decision, the reported Nov 9 date, and any US answer to Iran's proposal through Qatar.
  • Stolen XRP: further swaps from the six wallets, and any deposit at a centralized exchange.
  • VIX: whether it holds above 25 into next week.
  • Hormuz: attribution of the Velos Sapphire strike, and the vessel in Friday's report off Oman.
  • SEC: OIRA clearance of the crypto broker rule, RIN 3235-AN48.
  • CoinGlass: its missing Nov 2 row.

Key Levels:

  • Brent: a settle at or above $100.00 resets the Macro Backdrop count.
  • XRP ETFs: a net outflow week of Nov 2, confirmed on both trackers, moves XRP Flows to NEGATIVE.
  • USD/JPY: a close above 160 moves Yen Carry to ELEVATED; a 156 close resolves the worsening arrow.

Retired from Key Levels: the Brent $90.00 line, since Oil Shock no longer carries an arrow; the threshold stays on its tile.
