Ranked items
1September CPI runs hot as core rises 0.3%
High✓ VerifiedThe BLS says the CPI rose 0.6% in September after 0.4% in August, and 3.7% over the year, up from 3.4%. Gasoline rose 9.1% and accounted for over half the monthly gain. The part that matters for the Fed: core rose 0.3%, matching August, against a 0.2% consensus, and 2.6% over the year from 2.4%. Shelter rose 0.4%, airline fares 1.2% and used cars 0.7%, so this was not only a fuel story.
Markets repriced quickly. Futures had about a 22% chance of an October hike before the release and around 40% after (Reuters). The 10-year traded up to 5.306% and the 30-year to 5.564% after the print (CNBC); those are intraday quotes. Tuesday's Treasury par close was 5.56% on the 30-year and 5.21% on the 10-year, the first close since the holiday.
Why it matters: the Global Liquidity worsen test is an actual second 2026 hike, and the Oct 28 FOMC now looks like a closer call. Counter-evidence: September payrolls added only 29,000 jobs (CNBC), and the odds still sit below even; one core print does not make a hike. For XRP, tighter policy is one of the two legs holding the Macro Backdrop at HOSTILE, and this print reinforces it rather than easing it.
2Evernorth names its first XRP treasury execution partners
High✓ VerifiedEvernorth said Wednesday that Ripple, Kraken, Coinbase and BitGo are its inaugural institutional execution partners, and that it will both accumulate and deploy from its 473 million XRP treasury into institutional strategies beginning in the fourth quarter (GlobeNewswire). Later phases would move into on-ledger lending and credit once those XRP Ledger features are activated by validators and proven in production. CIO Hugo Jeandesboz, formerly co-CIO at Coinbase Asset Management, leads the program (The Block). The company rings the Nasdaq closing bell this afternoon.
What is not in the release: how much XRP will be deployed, any purchase amount, any yield target, or which strategy each partner runs; The Block notes no amount was specified. So no new XRP demand is disclosed today. This is an operating plan, not a purchase.
Record note: the release says XRPN began trading Oct 8; the desk's record has the first session on Oct 12. The desk keeps Oct 12 and flags the discrepancy.
Why it matters: lending XRP or posting it as collateral moves coins without adding net buying, and the stated goal is more XRP per share. A disclosed purchase is the event that would change the demand picture.
3Houthi missile hits Aramco's Dhahran headquarters
High✓ VerifiedA Houthi attack hit Saudi Aramco's headquarters complex in Dhahran overnight, causing a limited fire and no casualties, according to the Saudi Press Agency (The National). Bloomberg reports missile and drone attacks on several Saudi cities continued into Wednesday; debris from two intercepted missiles fell on Riyadh homes, injuring four (AP via WSLS). The Houthis also claimed an Aramco refinery in Riyadh and King Khalid airport (Middle East Eye); no Saudi or Aramco confirmation of a refinery hit was found, so that part stays a claim. AP quotes a Houthi official saying Russia and China have reached out about a ceasefire.
This follows Monday's warning that every Aramco facility is a target. The strike hit offices, not a production site, so the watch item on a confirmed oil-facility strike stays open.
Oil barely reacted: December Brent settled $105.69 Tuesday, down 96 cents, as Russian diesel prospects offset the Saudi risk (CNBC), and traded about $106.5 Wednesday morning (Trading Economics). The IEA board meets Thursday on the scale and timing of the G7 stock release (Reuters via AOL).
Why it matters: Oil Shock improves only on a settle below $90 and the Macro Backdrop needs five settles under $100; a confirmed hit on a producing or export site would push both further away.
4UKMTO reports four more ship strikes in Hormuz
High✓ VerifiedUKMTO issued four warnings for attacks on Oct 13: a tanker and three container ships hit by unknown projectiles. Vanguard Tech identified the container ships as GFS Pride, GFS Giselle and Al Saadiyat and the tanker as Alfonso, which is on Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority non-compliance list (Seatrade Maritime). That makes 24 UKMTO warnings in October so far. Warning 172-26 describes a container ship of about 50,000 tonnes struck inbound with minor damage and no casualties (Arab Times).
Iran claims a mine sank one of the container ships (Seatrade Maritime). No UKMTO or flag-state confirmation of a sinking was located, so the sinking stays a claim.
Container ships are a shift: most October strikes hit tankers. Why it matters: the Hormuz improve test needs five sessions with transits at or above the ten-day average and no new strike; daily strikes keep it at zero. No new Reuters transit count was located this run.
5XRP ETFs print zero for a second session
Medium✓ VerifiedSoSoValue shows $0.00 net flow on Oct 13 across all five XRP spot ETFs, with value traded $20.50M, net assets $1.56B and cumulative inflow $1.80B. CoinGlass shows +0 for every fund on the same date; both were read from screenshots and agree. The week of Oct 12 is $0 after two sessions, against the $39.78M reference the improve test needs.
The contrast is bitcoin: Farside shows $175.7M into bitcoin ETFs on Oct 13, led by FBTC at $103.1M, and ether ETFs took $24.8M (BlockBeats via KuCoin). XRP funds did not share the inflow day.
Why it matters: flat is not an outflow, so the WEAKENING test is not met, but three sessions remain to reach $39.78M. Counter-evidence: this month's SoSoValue history shows zero sessions followed by single creation days, such as $8.17M on Oct 8 after $0 on Oct 7, so the weekly print decides, not the daily pace.
6Ripple signs Meritz Securities as first Korean securities partner
Medium✓ VerifiedRipple and Meritz Securities signed a partnership to explore bringing Ripple Custody and Ripple's tokenization infrastructure into Meritz's securities operations, starting under current Korean rules and expanding as the framework develops (CoinPaper; Crypto Briefing). Ripple calls it its first Korean securities firm partner and fourth Korean institution this year, after Kyobo Life, Kbank and Jeonbuk Bank.
Exploration, not launch. No go-live date, custody volume or chain was disclosed. Crypto.news notes Ripple can earn from custody technology even if no Meritz client buys XRP, and that XRP's role is unclear.
Why it matters: this is Ripple corporate distribution in a large retail crypto market, a separate variable from XRP token demand. It moves no gauge.
7Ripple and Stripe-owned Privy bring embedded wallets to XRPL
Medium✓ VerifiedRipple and Privy, a Stripe company, said developers will be able to create embedded XRP Ledger wallets, sign transactions and hold XRP, RLUSD and other ledger assets through Privy, including server-side wallets for AI agents (CoinDesk; Cryptonews Australia). RippleX SVP Markus Infanger is quoted on fintech adoption.
A Ripple executive puts AI-agent payments at about 25% of XRP Ledger activity, a company-stated figure the desk has not verified on-ledger; some coverage cites 13 million agent payments while CoinDesk's headline says more than 14 million. CoinDesk notes each new account still needs the 1 XRP reserve to activate, even for stablecoin-only use.
Why it matters: wallet onboarding is plumbing that could add accounts, but 1 XRP per account is not material demand at current scale. Infrastructure, not a gauge input.
